About Athena Laboratories & Tempo-Flash
We are Athena Laboratories, the creators of the Tempo-Flash Metronome, dedicated to helping musicians stay rhythmically precise during practice and performance
Athena Laboratories Inc, a small Georgia subchapter-s corporation was founded in 2004 by Jim Higgins a seasoned electronic engineer, to create well designed solutions for the electronics industry. Higgins, also a musician migrated from guitar to the Dobro and realized his rhythmic timing needed work. A ticking metronome was found to be quite annoying. The visual techniques available on the market required direct line of sight to their planar surface, in conflict with the Dobro's requirement to focus on the fretboard slide position while still reading music. Necessity being the mother of invention, it was found that a bright flashing light with a 360degree viewing angle would be captured with your peripheral vision. The Light Pipe concept was developed, and Tempo-Flash was born.
The unique optical metronome was designed to have four color capability which allows synchronization to specific beats within a measure. Depending on the musical signature selected, it will sequence though either two, three or four colors. The tempo is programmable from 30 to 250 beats per minute.
Although the Tempo-Flash Metronome can be viewed from considerable distance by a number of musicians, the Tempo-Flash Satellite was developed for band, orchestra, studio and classroom displays. As many as three Satellites can be added to the metronome by simply plugging them in.
